Things
To Do
We recommend setting
aside several days (or half days) to explore local cities such as
Maratea, Diamante, Dino Island, Pizzo, Tropea, the Sila and the
Pollino National Park. Sicily is 3 hours south following the coastal
road. Amalfi and Positano, north of San Nicola, can be easily reached
by car in less than 2 hours. After that, you'll want to lounge around
the vacation rental, where you can relax with a glass of wine in
one of the outdoor areas, or prepare your own meals. The beaches
in San Nicola have paddle boats, kayaks and rafts for rent.
Our
beautiful beaches and rocky coves, create a fascinating coastline.
During the summer, the beaches are lined with places to eat and
drink. There are paid beaches, where you can rent
a chaise lounge chair with umbrella for the day, or
free beaches where you can bring your own blankets or chairs and umbrellas.
The Mediterranean Sea is clean and extremely clear.
In Praia-a-Mare, you
can hire boats to explore Dino Island, its grottos and caves. Dino
Island, is approximately one mile in circumference and is home to
six magnificent grottos, easily accessible by paddleboat or canoe
that can be rented by any number of beach lidos in operation from
May until September. In the off-season, boats can be rented at hotels.
During the summer, white
water rafting is available on the Lao River in Papasidero. In the
winter, downhill and cross-country skiing in the Sila is less than
a 2 hour drive away. A 9-hole golf course at the Golf Club San Michele,
is 35 minutes south, located in Cetraro. One day cruises to the
Aeolian Islands are available daily from Cetraro.
